Nearly 150 houses have been looted in Gombe, denounces Guillaume Ngefa

22/05/2026

The Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Guillaume Ngefa, has denounced a vast network of real estate grabbing operating in the Gombe district of Kinshasa. According to his statements, nearly 150 houses have been illegally occupied or seized from their rightful owners.

The Minister of Justice asserts that several influential figures are implicated in these cases, including certain public officials and former ministers. He describes this situation as a serious violation of property rights and the authority of the State.

"Among the perpetrators are certain public officials, including former ministers," declared Guillaume Ngefa, promising legal action against those responsible for these practices. This statement comes amid a surge in land disputes in the Congolese capital, particularly in districts with high property values. Gombe, the administrative and economic center of Kinshasa, is among the areas most affected by disputes related to real estate grabbing. The Ministry of Justice asserts its intention to intensify investigations and strengthen mechanisms for protecting property owners in order to dismantle the mafia networks involved in illegal expropriations.

As victims demand justice and reparations, this denunciation brings the issue of land governance and impunity in real estate matters in the Democratic Republic of Congo back to the forefront of the debate.
